The Campaign Against Depleted Uranium is a campaigning organisation that is working towards
a UK ban on the use of uranium in all conventional weapons and weapon systems and for monitoring, health care, compensation and environmental remediation for communities affected by their use
Currently our focus is the Don't DU it campaign that seeks to prevent the UK government from renewing or relicencing its sole surviving and soon to expire DU round, CHARM 3.
The Manchester based organisation was set up in January 1999 by passionate CND activists. Pat Sanchez founding member describes how CADU came about:
"We first became aware of the dangers of DU after hearing Felicity Arbuthnot speak about the health effects attributed to DU use in the first Gulf War. She is a journalist who has visited Iraq many times, is a mine of information and a passionate speaker. We were profoundly moved at her stories of the damage done to civilians, especially to the children. We felt we had to do something about it and decided to launch CADU."
Groups and individuals can affiliate to CADU, and become part of this worldwide movement to stop DU. For more information about CADU or any of our work please contact us at info [at] cadu.org.uk
As of summer 2015 CADU no longer has a paid worker and this website is being maintained by ICBUW.
